Our DJ’s/turntablists often bring a unique authenticity to their performances, particularly if they use vinyl records, 45’s or other traditional equipment. Our mission is to create a world where all DJs, turntablists, and selectors are recognized, respected, and celebrated for their talent and contribution to the music industry. We strive to create a community of support, mentorship, and collaboration for them, while advocating for change and progress in the industry as a whole. We are proud to be female founders in a traditionally male-dominated industry and are committed to making the biggest positive impact in our communities.


  • Founder

    Maricel Sison is the founder of Ladies of Sound, a community organization based in Los Angeles, California that is the official women’s division of The Beat Junkie Institute of Sound, where she also is the Principal. Maricel has been a passionate music lover and DJ for over a decade, and she has dedicated her career to promoting gender equality and inclusivity in the music industry, as well as being one of the biggest advocates for DJs.

    After working as a photographer in the LA nightlife scene for many years, Maricel noticed a lack of representation for womxn DJs in the industry. In response, she founded Ladies of Sound in 2018 as a platform for female DJs to connect, support each other, and showcase their talent.

    Under Maricel's leadership, Ladies of Sound has grown into a thriving community organization and agency that hosts DJ panels, educational workshops, and nightlife events featuring talented female DJs from around the world. Maricel's commitment to creating safe spaces for women and non-binary individuals in the music industry has earned her respect and recognition from both peers and industry leaders.

    Maricel's mission is to continue to promote gender equality and empower women and non-binary individuals to pursue their dreams as DJs and music industry professionals.

  • Co-Founder

    I’m a multi-faceted Los Angeles based producer, event coordinator, curator, and DJ. I’m currently 11 years deep into the music industry, having worked for record labels, recording studios, music blogs, music venues, and as of most recent - the world’s most renowned DJ school.

    I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Audio Engineering from the Art Institute of California, with a focus on live sound. Since then, I’ve dedicated my life to producing concerts and events, eventually working my way from all things backstage to front stage.

    Culture, Community, + Creation is everything I encompass my world around.

    My biggest DJ accomplishment to date is going on a 40-day North American tour with Grammy Award-Winning R&B singers Lucky Daye and Joyce Wrice.
